Announcement: New API Reference
We’re excited to announce the launch of a modernized API Reference experience on the FamilySearch Developer website. This update is designed to make it easier than ever for developers to explore, understand, and interact with the FamilySearch API.
Improved Search Capabilities
The site-wide search now includes endpoint operations in the results. Whether you're looking for how to “Update a Person” or “Read Relationships,” you’ll find it quickly and clearly.
Organized by Operation
We've reorganized the API Reference around individual operations (e.g., Read Person, Search Tree Persons), replacing the previous resource-based structure. This means you can now zero in on exactly what you want to do, faster.
Try It! – Interactive Testing
Each operation page now includes a "Try It!" feature, allowing you to test API calls directly in the Beta environment. Just provide your access token, fill in the parameters, and run your request—all in the same place.
JSON Schema Page
We’ve added a dedicated JSON Schema page that details the structure of the FamilySearch data model. This is your go-to reference for understanding how data is formatted across the API.
Coming Soon
We’re actively working on integrating example requests and responses into each operation page. In the meantime, you can still find helpful examples in the Guides » Example Requests section.
We’d love to hear your feedback as you explore the new experience. Try it out and let us know what you think!
